What is the Tamworth Transit Lounge
The Tamworth Transit Lounge is a rest area for volunteer drivers and their clients attending appointments.
Volunteers from across the New England area are driving long distances and hours to enable Home and Community Care (HACC) clients to attend medical appointments in Tamworth. This is due to the centralisation of medical services and lack of specialist services in outlying areas.
The demand on community transport is increasing, with some areas sending cars or buses to Tamworth most days of the week. If more than one client is transported, they may need an area to rest while waiting for each other.
The Transit Lounge is a free facility, which enables drivers and clients to wait in comfort. Clients have the option to have a drink or something to eat, rest or even watch some television while waiting.
Location
The Transit Lounge is situated in the Tamworth Community Centre in Darling St, Tamworth.
