Tamworth Regional Council is committed to ensuring a full range of services and specialised assistance is available for Senior Citizens within our community.
A range of services and specialised assistance is achieved through advocacy, assessment, social planning and service provision. In addition, Senior Citizens are assisted through community development programs, support and information.
Our community workers provide information, referrals and assistance on aged care matters as well as organising a range of activities including Seniors Week, which is held in March each year.

Gentle Exercises Program for Senior Citizens in the Tamworth Region
The Gentle Exercises Program provides low impact activities for Senior Citizens in order to increase their overall fitness and mobility as well as muscle strength.
The program is for seniors, people who have never exercised or those who cannot do any high impact workouts or those who are limited in their physical abilities.
This program is offered each week at:
Tamworth Community Centre: Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Moonbi Kootingal Respite Care Centre: Wednesday
Grandparents Support Groups – ‘Grandies’
The Grandparents Support Group is for grandparents who:
- have problems with access to their grandchildren
- now care for their grandchildren
- have other concerns in relation to their grandchildren
If you are a grandparent who meets these criteria, you are welcome to join others in the same situation.
“Grandies” meet at 1:00pm on the first Monday of each month at the Tamworth Community Centre in Darling Street, to share information and support whilst having a cup of tea or coffee.

Do you care for a relative or a friend who is frail, aged, has a disability or a chronic illness? Then the New England Carer Support Service may be able to help.
